Cyber Attacks Increased by 50% in December 2021 due to Log4J Exploits
Less than a month after the world witnessed one of the most serious vulnerabilities on the internet, with millions of attacks per hour attempting to exploit the Log4J vulnerability, 2021 has been a record-breaking year in terms of cyber-security. Overall, in 2021, researchers have seen 50% more attacks per week on corporate networks compared to 2020. India has witnessed 1803 Weekly average attacks per Organization in 2021 and there has been 24% change from year 2020. Log4Shell is a critical vulnerability that has the potential to be one of the most impactful organizations have ever seen. Governmental advisories have been issued and organizations are scrambling not just to patch but to try to understand where they might be vulnerable. Check Point Research saw hackers targeted Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America the most, but Europe saw the highest percent increase in cyberattacks year over year. Education/Research placed first for the most targeted industry sector worldwide. The trend of increasing cyberattacks reached an all-time high at the end of 2021 after revelations of the Log4J exploit, peaking to 925 cyberattacks a week per organization, globally.

3. Communications (+51%)
4. ISP/MSP (67%)
5. Healthcare (71%)
Hackers keep innovating. Last year, we saw a staggering 50% more cyberattacks per week on corporate networks compared to 2020 – that’s a significant increase. The cyberattack numbers peak towards the end of the year, largely due to the Log4J vulnerability exploit attempts. New penetration techniques and evasion methods have made it much easier for hackers to execute malicious intentions. What’s most alarming is that we’re seeing some pivotal societal industries surge into the most attacked list. Year 2021 witnessed cloud to cryptocurrency to metaverse
Covid has accelerated digital adoption, resulting many to move to opt for the cloud. We have high speed digitalisation to meet the demand with most of the companies into IT in the country. The overall IT services sector at this point is going through golden times that we have not seen in the past. As per Gartner, it predicts that the worldwide public cloud revenue will grow by 23% in 2021 for a total revenue close to $332.2 billion U.S., up from $270 billion from last year. The year 2021 was truly the 'year of #cryptocurrency. #Bitcoin, the world's oldest and largest cryptocurrency - seized mainstream acceptance with El Salvador, amid its dizzying rally throughout the year. Apart from this, blockchain-based technology gave birth to non-fungible tokens - being non-interchangeable - distinguishing itself from cryptocurrency. In May, the Chinese central government issued notice to all Bitcoin trading and mining crackdown. By June, power supplies for industrial-scale Bitcoin mining farms in Xinjiang's Zhundong economic zone and Sichuan were directed to shut down. Chinese authorities believe cryptocurrency disturbs the economic order and facilitates illegal asset transfers and money laundering. The authorities also blame crypto miners for energy waste, deadly coal mining accidents - which is a potential threat to the country's efforts to reduce carbon emission. In September, China's central bank said all cryptocurrency-related transactions are illegal and must be banned. In October, the United States officially became the largest hub for Bitcoin mining operations and businesses. China's crackdown created an opportunity for overseas bitcoin mining operations - leading to an infrastructure boom in North America, Russia, Central Asia, and Europe.

IT department uncovers Rs 60 crores from 20 accounts in Axis Bank raid
The Income Tax Department on 15 December conducted a raid on Axis Bank, in Noida, Sector 51.
According to news agency ANI, over 20 fake companies had their accounts in the branch and an amount of over Rs 60 crore was deposited in these accounts.
Other reports claim that 44 fake accounts were created with the help of forged documents.
On 5 December, ED officials arrested two Axis Bank managers in New Delhi in connection with illegal conversion of currency notes.
