Why Personal Data Protection Bill Will 'Severely Restrict Scope of RTI Act' ?
The #DataProtectionBill must be harmonised with the provisions and objectives of the #RTIAct. This would be in line with the recommendation of the Justice A.P. Shah report on privacy that said, “The Privacy Act should clarify that publication of personal data for public interest and disclosure of information as required by the Right to Information Act should not constitute an infringement of privacy.”
Neither the recognition of the Right to Privacy, nor the enactment of a data protection law, requires any amendment to the existing RTI law.
Second, given that the government is the biggest data repository, the law must not give wide discretionary powers to the executive.

Data protection Bill awaits consent
The Indian government has approved a draft of the Digital Personal #DataProtectionBill, which requires consent before collecting personal data and imposes penalties for data breaches. The bill is expected to be presented in the upcoming session of Parliament. While the contents of the Bill will remain confidential until it is brought in Parliament.
Nearly six years after the Supreme Court held privacy to be a fundamental right, the Centre has made a second attempt at framing legislation for protection of data. The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022, a draft of which was floated in November, is expected to be tabled in Parliament’s Monsoon Session that begins on July 20.
The Bill is crucial because irrespective of our levels of digital literacy or comfort with digital technologies, digitalisation and data will inevitably and increasingly impact vital aspects of our public and private lives. But, the question is, does the draft Bill adequately address the still extant public concerns that led to the unanimous privacy judgment by a nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court almost six years back?

#Ransomwareattacks will continue to rise in 2023. In today’s threat landscape no one’s systems are safe and there’s no signs of cybercriminals slowing down these efforts. Humans are the weakest link when it comes to security.
After surveying #CISOs of small to midsize businesses, Cynet discovered 65% report their ability to protect their organization is compromised because of work overload, with nearly 100% admitting they need additional resources
The report says after surveying chief information security officers (CISOs) at small to midsize businesses with security teams of five employees or less to better understand their levels of work-related stress and how their mental health is impacting their work life and personal life. Cynet found 94% of CISOs report being stressed at work, with 65% admitting work-related stress issues are compromising their ability to protect their organization. Among the CISOs surveyed, 100% said they needed additional resources to adequately cope with current IT security challenges.

The challenge in multi-cloud adoption is managing complexity, the more cloud environments your organization uses, the more complex the management task becomes. The problem lies in the diversity among cloud vendors. Each public cloud vendor has its own portal, its own APIs, and its own unique processes for managing its environment. WhatsApp obtaining 'trick consent', forcing users to accept its privacy policy: Centre to Delhi HC
The Centre has told the Delhi High Court that social messaging platform WhatsApp was trying to "force" its users to consent to the new privacy policy before the Personal Data Protection Bill becomes the law by bombarding them with notifications daily to obtain their consent. Terming WhatsApp's bombarding of notifications on its customers as an "anti-user practice" for obtaining "trick consent", the central government has urged the court to direct the messaging platform to desist from pushing notifications onto its existing users with regard to the new privacy policy.
