Why did India ban import of laptops?
The government on Thursday restricted the import of laptops, tablets and computers with immediate effect for security reasons and to promote domestic manufacturing. Laptops and tablets account for a fraction of India’s annual import of electronics of more than $60 billion.
The ban of import of Laptops, tablets and computers will add another layer of incentive for local manufacturing to the existing incentives worth $2 billion assured under the Productivity-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. India is targeting annual production worth $300 billion by 2026 and the restrictions on unlimited imports will compel companies like Dell, Acer, Samsung, LG Electronics, Apple, Lenovo and HP to enhance their assembling or manufacturing facilities in India.

The recent move by the Government to regulate the Virtual private network or VPN, is aimed at strengthening cyber security. Since, VPN services don't store logs of user activities and users usually use VPNs to hide their IP address from their Internet Service Providers and other third parties.
However, the tech companies are getting suffocated and addressing the industry by raising the issue of user privacy as VPNs are generally, which is used to conceal information.
Dubbing cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum as clear danger, the governor of Reserve Bank said, anything that derives value based on make believe, without any underlying, is just speculation under a sophisticated name.

These cell sites will use 5G’s Dynamic Spectrum Sharing capability in which multiple streams of information share the bandwidth in so-called “slices” with each slice embedding its own varying degree of cyber risk.
The 5G connections in India are likely to touch 88 million by 2025, according to GSMA. With the Indian service providers conducting 5G trials and tests, India is at an exciting point in its journey toward 5G. The country is all set to conduct a 5G spectrum auction in the coming year. IT spending in India is expected to grow
IT spending in India is forecasted to total $101.8 billion in 2022, an increase of 7% from 2021, according to the latest forecast by Gartner. The digital transformation trajectory that began as a pandemic response is here to stay for the next few years. India has experienced one of the fastest recoveries despite being one of the worst hit regions in the second wave of the pandemic in early 2021. In 2022, CIOs in India will build on renewed interest in technology from the business to gain funding for new IT projects. Indian CIOs are likely to increase their spending towards projects that drive innovation and modernizing legacy systems. Hiring a workforce that can deliver on these needs will also be a key priority. Next year, Indian CIOs are prioritizing a move away from rigid and monolithic ways of doing business to a more composable business and IT architecture where they will be able to better respond to disruptions.
In 2022, all segments of IT spending in India are expected to grow, with software emerging as the highest growing segment. Spending on software is forecast to total $10.5 billion in 2022, up 14.4% from 2021. While experiencing a slower growth rate than 2021, spending on software in 2022 is forecast to be nearly double of what it was pre-pandemic. As hybrid work adoption increases in the country, there will be an uptick in spending on devices in 2022, reaching $44 billion, an increase of 7.5% from 2021. “The growth in devices is a combination of two components – hybrid work and pent-up demand from 2020 for device upgrades. Spending on devices will make up 43% of total IT spending next year.” Spending on communication services is expected to rise 2.3% to $24.5 billion in 2022 from $24 billion in 2021, while that on data centre systems is forecast to grow 3.4% to $2.8 billion in 2022 from $2.7 billion in 2021, according to Gartner reports.
