Potential risks of ‘Buy Now Pay Later’
New research by financial advice service OpenMoney finds almost 57% of adults aged 18 to 50 have now used buy now, pay later schemes, up from 49% last year. The largest rise in usage has been among 45 to 50-year-olds, where 16% growth in the last year makes it the age group most likely to choose the payment method, with 58% having done so compared to 56% of those aged 18 to 24 - contradicting the belief that it is largely a tool for youngsters. The survey, among 2,000 UK adults found that the most frequently bought items using BNPL are laptops, phones and other tech items, followed by clothes and holidays. 41% of respondents said they use it because they can’t afford to pay for an item in one go, double the number who feel it makes financial sense to spread the cost. Among 45 to 50-year-olds, those who use BNPL because they can’t afford an item upfront increased by 20% last year. Concerningly, those struggling to pay off their BNPL debts has also risen, from 38% last year to 43% this year and one in three users have turned to friends and family for help with repayments - an increase of 10% on 2020 figures - while seven percent took out a loan and five percent used a credit card to pay back the money.
Buy now pay later services are a form of payment where consumers make purchases and pay them off over a period of time in several installments, often interest-free. While BNPL is typically interest-free, some providers charge high late payment fees. Hayley Millhouse, managing director of OpenMoney, comments: “While from a budgeting perspective, spreading the cost of expensive items could make financial sense, it is worrying to see that two-fifths of users struggle to pay off the resulting debt, with many turning to friends and family or other forms of borrowing to make repayments.” The UK's Financial Conduct Authority will introduce new rules for buy now, pay lateद्वारा VARINDIA | 47 दृश्य

Wi-Fi is a family of wireless network protocols, based on the IEEE 802.11 family of standards, which are commonly used for local area networking of devices and Internet access, allowing nearby digital devices to exchange data by radio waves. These are the most widely used computer networks in the world, used globally in home and small office networks to link desktop and laptop, computers, smartphones, smart TVs, printers, and smart speakers together to a wireless router to connect them to the Internet, and in wireless access points in public places like coffee shops, hotels, libraries and airports to provide the public Internet access for mobile devices.
The term FragAttack (a mashup of ‘fragmentation’ and ‘aggregation’) is all about WiFi’s handling of data. FragAttacks could allow hackers within a device’s WiFi radio range to gather information about its owner and introduce malware to compromise intelligent devices such as computers or smartphones—even those protected by standard WiFi security protocol such as WEP WPA2 or WPA3. These vulnerabilities have to do with design flaws in the WiFi standard itself, while others have to do with how manufacturers of devices implement WiFi. With this vulnerability, adversaries might abuse the vulnerabilities to get the victim’s login details and hackers can exploit exposed Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices by activating and deactivating a smart power socket. A report says, many vendors have already released patches for some of their products.
