Growing acceptance of TikTok is going to give stiff competition to YouTube by 2024. The Chinese-owned video platform is set to overtake the advertising scale of Twitter and Snapchat combined, despite TikTok being launched globally 12 years after its Google-owned rival. TikTok, which was banned in India in June 2020 along with several Chinese apps in the first lot, is likely to triple its global worldwide ad revenues $11.6 billion this year -- more than $10.44 billion for Snapchat and Twitter combined. The forecast is going to catch up with YouTube by 2024 when both are predicted to take $23.6bn in ad revenue, reports The Guardian. In 2021, social video app TikTok had approximately 78.7 million users in the United States. This figure is projected to increase by around eight percent year-over-year, reaching 84.9 million users in 2022. TikTok is one of the fastest-growing social media apps in the United States and especially popular with younger digital audiences. Meanwhile, TikTok emerged as the top grossing non-game app in Q1 2022, generating $821 million in consumer spending in the quarter. On Google Play, it came second to Google One, which topped the chart with nearly $250 million, according to Sensor Tower. A Washington Post report late last month claimed that Meta allegedly paid a prominent Republican consulting firm to malign TikTok. According to the report, Meta ran a nationwide campaign to sow distrust about one of the company's top competitors, TikTok.
Facebook has been losing users for quite some time while TikTok's usage is rising in the US. An estimate says, that TikTok has about 80 million monthly active users in the United States. 60% are female, 40% are male. 60% are between the ages of 16-24. For nearly a decade, the Israeli firm had been selling its surveillance software on a subscription basis to law-enforcement and intelligence agencies around the world, promising that it could do what no one else, not a private company, not even a state intelligence service could do: consistently and reliably crack the encrypted communications of any iPhone or Android smartphone.
There were certain cases, where the courts are struggling to deal with claims by security and intelligence services that an urgent warrant is needed to approve the use of surveillance systems to protect state security and prevent terrorism. According to the business daily Calcalist, Pegasus was also used by police on citizens at the forefront of protests against Mr. Netanyahu last year, when he was still Prime Minister, as well as other Israelis. We can’t deny the fact of the growing Economic Uncertainty, Competitive Threats and Cost Inflation Cited as the Biggest Risks to Business Performance. Fifty-seven percent of Boards of Directors have increased or expect to increase their risk appetite heading into 2022, according to a new survey from Gartner. The Boards of Directors cite economic uncertainty (38%), disruptive business models from competitors (35%) and cost inflation due to supply shortages (28%) as the top risks to business performance. The Survey was conducted via an online survey from May through June 2021 among 273 respondents in the U.S., Europe and APAC in a board of director role or a member of the corporate board of directors. During the pandemic, the Boards of Directors recognized that they needed to become comfortable operating in an environment of significant risk, as standing still was not an option. “This drove them to embrace the ‘try fast, fail fast approach,’ and in 2022, the Boards of Directors will continue taking risks such as making technology investment decisions with incomplete information or making financial bets without up-front visibility around a guaranteed return.
Digital Technology Remains a Top Priority and the Boards of Directors remain highly committed to digital technology initiatives, which was ranked as a top strategic business priority by 58% of survey respondents. However, this is a slight decrease from the 2021 survey. Having invested so much in digital business over the past 12 to 18 months, enterprises are taking a pause to validate their strategy and ensure ROI. For Boards of Directors, the core focus is now on technology integration and creating a more enduring and systemic digital economic architecture, where technology is infused throughout the business and drives business outcomes. With rapid technological advancements, the number of online game developers rose to 275 in 2019 from a meager 25 in 2010. India is on the fast track to becoming a development center for gaming companies. Secondly, adoption of digital payment methods: Digital payment platforms are expected to grow from 100 million users recorded in 2019 to 300 million users in 2022. This has contributed to an increase in online payments on gaming portals. Games are highly engrossing, which makes them ideal to earn revenues. If the content and graphics are good, the gamer will not mind waiting a few seconds for an ad before continuing with their game. Smart monetizing strategies are further making the online gaming sector a hit business.
The number of gamers should reach 440 million by 2022, from about 360 million last year. Popularity of gaming, including e-sports, has surged through the pandemic that has restricted mobility beyond home. The category expanded 12% in 2020, even as the growth was curtailed by a ban on PUBG. But after the pandemic, there was an increase of 90% in the number of people playing esports, while viewership doubled to 17 million, hosted across 14 broadcast platforms. Interestingly, customers are moving toward high-end products like gaming laptops and are investing in more expensive accessories. Biometric and facial authentication to curb cyber attacks
Most organizations switched to work from home hastily from last year due to the mayhem caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, often leaving the doors open for malicious elements to come in and infect the corporate resources. Research says nearly 3.1 million external attacks are on cloud user accounts. This data set represents companies in all major industries across the globe, including financial services, healthcare, public sector, education, retail, technology, manufacturing, energy, utilities, legal, real estate, transportation, and business services.
As work from home has increased by 5 times as compared to the pre-Covid days, cyberattacks have also surged by a whopping 300%. In most of the cases, cyberattacks were carried out by stealing user identities or exploiting the poor (or lack of) user authentication mechanisms. A report says, the US government reported a 3000% increase in identity theft attempts due to the Covid situation. The option of Biometrics-based authentication could be the ultimate solution, like usage of facial verification or fingerprint verification, that overcomes the limitations of typical OTP or push notifications-based authentication by essentially providing authentication based on “who you are”. It ensures absolute certainty before granting or denying access as hardly any tampering can be done to ‘Who you are’. However, the best practice would be continuous authentication – The way to go.
